Altar Server Awards
| Any young person, girl or boy, in Grade 4 or higher, may become a server. The main role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. For more information, contact Father Dan.
Altar servers perform most of the functions of the former "minor order" of ordained clerics known as acolytes (from the Greek word akolouthos or 'attendant'). Church writings from the second and third centuries discuss the role of acolytes, giving the office great importance and honor in the history of the Church. Altar servers today are not ordained, but are 'commissioned' by their parish priest.
The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the liturgy (hymns, responses, etc.), by 'looking alert' and by sitting or standing at the appropriate times. |

Last Wednesday evening three altar servers from our parish received the "Bishop's Award for Service" from Bishop Crosby during the 28th Annual Altar Servers Awards Ceremony at the Cathedral of Christ the King. We offer our sincere thanks and congratulations to the following servers for the honour they received:
Faith Andrejciw Taylor MacDonald Max Sampson
Each year, altar servers from parishes throughout the Brant, Halton and Hamilton Deaneries are selected for this special recognition in light of their dedication, sense of responsibility and display of leadership in the performance of their duties.
The parish is truly grateful to all of its altar servers for their participation at the celebration of Mass and other ceremonies beyond Mass through the Church year.
The Altar Server Awards Program is sponsored by the Serra Club of Hamilton, a long established organization in the Diocese whose purpose is to foster and promote vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.
