Financial Report

  1. Expenses — Father explained the horrible financial year that the parish has had because of many unexpected repairs (to-date approximately $23,000 has been paid out to cover extra-ordinary expenses). Some of the bills were tied in with the work being done in front of the office, some as a result of the lightening storm in August, and some ‘just because’. Fundraisers were discussed but the general feeling is that, between envelopes and events during the year, the congregation is asked for money often enough.

  2. New entrance to the Friendship Room — The “roof” portion of the entrance is leaking and rusting along the metal parts. This requires that the frame must be replaced. The concern is that someone might cut themselves on rust that has flaked off. Wellington Carpentry, the company of a parishioner, has been hired to do the work which will begin October 17. The cost for the replacement will be $18,000.

  3. Projected reduction to Line of Credit — Father believes that the Line of Credit will be reduced this year by about $20,000 (to compare: $40,000 in 2010 and $80,000 in 2009). Father is content with the amount of the reduction in light of extra-ordinary expenses this year.

Matters Arising From Last Meeting

Chalice — The Chalice account is in a good state at the moment because of 3 large donations:  in June, Miss Malatesta’s grade one class collected money and donated it to our Chalice program ($190); a family from the parish donated money collected at a community barbeque as well as a change jar from their own home ($236); and parishioners were very generous in their donations to the Chalice can on the weekend when Deacon Ron Jenkins made his appeal ($298). The account now has a balance of $548.

Committee Reports

Parish Life – The Friendship Group resumed meeting on September 14 and will hold a sale on October 29/30.

Parish Ministry – Report attached.

Social Justice – Report attached.

Education – Bishop Ryan received their new Chaplain this week, Ms. Tina Fitzgerald. The Opening school Mass has not been scheduled as of yet. A phone call was made to see if the school was sending students to Life Chain on October 2nd, but the call was not returned. A report with St. Luke School and Board events is attached.

Youth – "Nothing to report.

CWL – Report is attached.

Knights of Columbus – No one was in attendance to represent the Knights of Columbus and no report was submitted but Father acknowledged and thanked them for their commitment and work in maintaining the church flower beds and keeping the grounds of the church clean.

New Business

  3. RCIA &mdash The program began at our parish on September 18 with 4 people attending. A couple who is attending the program have 2 children involved in the Catechetical Correspondence Course. Father hopes that the whole family will be received at the Easter Vigil Mass.

  4. Retirement — Father Dan will not be retiring in May of 2012 when he turns 70. He mentioned this because of some speculation in the parish and questions which he has been asked.
