Catholic Women's League
The St. Luke's Council of the Catholic Women's League was chartered February 4, 1976. Since that time it has worked for the good of the parish community and all our brothers and sisters.
About the CWL
The Catholic Women's League of Canada is first and foremost a spiritual organization, that hopefully will bring its members closer to God, to our Patroness Our Lady of Good Counsel, and to each other. The CWL is an organization that contributes to the life and vitality of the church, family and community, both at home and abroad.
The CWL strives to:
- achieve spiritual development
- contribute to the understanding and growth of religious freedom, social justice, peace, and harmony
- enhance the role of women in church and in society
- exemplify the Christian ideal in family life
- promote the teachings of the Catholic Church
- protect the sanctity of human life
- recognize the human dignity of all people
- uphold Christian education and values
The St. Luke's CWL meets on the first Tuesday of the month (September to June), in the Parish Centre, beginning with Mass at 7:00 p.m.

Membership
Currently (2008), we have 115 members in the St. Luke's CWL. Total membership across Canada is over 110,000 women strong.
While your presence at meetings is significant, we realize that in this busy world it may not always be possible for you to attend. Be assured that your interest and support is as important as your attendance!
Come and join our CWL. New members are welcome. Membership is open to all women aged sixteen and older.
To join, come out to our monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of every month (September to June), submit the registration fee in the envelope included with you weekly envelopes, register during our January campaign, or call the church during office hours at (905) 560-1551.
Your annual membership gives you the option to be an active member of a "supporting member" who will pray for the wonderful work done by the League and add your vote to the other Canadian members on issues presented to our government.
Our meeting calendar is found by clicking on the Activity Calendar link on the left menu.

Projects
The Objects of the League mandate that we are always educating ourselves on the changes in our world, through work in our schools, through Development and Peace, and resolutions and legislation passed in our country. Following is a list of projects that the CWL members have sponsored or participated in during the past year.
- WRAP Campaign (White Ribbons Against Pornography) -- White ribbons are distributed to parishioners; signatures are collected and sent to the Prime Minister's Office. Donations are sent to the Pornography Hurts Bus Campaign.
- Angel Tree -- "Angels" are put on a tree before Christmas for parishioners to select and angel, then buy an appropriate gift. Gifts are returned a few weeks later and placed under the tree. They are delivered to local families as well as the charitable organizations such as The Good Shepherd, Martha House, St. Martin's Manor, Brennan House, and the Catholic Children's Aid Society. Over 300 gifts were given.
- Stockings -- Small Christmas stockings made by the ladies are handed out at the first of the year to be filled with change. These stockings are returned before Christmas. Over $900 is collected and used for food hampers, and some of the money is sent to Out of the Cold Program.
- Needy Families -- Five families from the two local Catholic schools are provided with food and vouchers.
- Each year we present one student from St. Luke's elementary school and one from Bishop Ryan High School the Christian Attitude Award.
- Communicants are given pins and the Confirmed receive crosses from the CWL.
- A "Friendship Group" -- a group of senior "friends" meets Wednesday afternoons from 1 - 3 p.m. in the Friendship Room. This is a social afternoon. The group does projects to give to various charities.

Spiritual Involvement
While many individuals are active throughout the community doing many good works, spiritual involvement includes:
- May Crowning
- Reciting the Rosary before weekend Masses during May
- Mass for the Deceased in February
- Mass and prayers before and at each meeting
- Mass Cards are sent on the death of family members
- Visits and flowers are made to the sick and elderly
- Honour Guard for any Catholic woman burried from St. Luke's
- World Day of Prayer — CWL members attended and many were involved in preparing the program

Activities
Not everything we do is work and service to our parish community. Our CWL is about fun and celebration. Here are a few of the FUN things we've done recently:
