Ministries
The following is a partial listing of the ministries in our parish community. Please consider volunteering for one or more of these ministries or committees. If everyone worked in an area, it wouldn't be work at all. Contact us if you would like more information.
NOTE: As required by the Diocese of Hamilton, all volunteers at St. Luke Parish are screened to protect all those involved in ministry, both those who minister and those to whom they minister. To learn more about the Volunteering Screening policy in the diocese, click here.
- Altar Linens
- Parishioners who care for the purificators, altar cloths, hand towels and Father's albs on a rotating basis.
- Altar Servers
- The main role of the altar server is to assist the Priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. Any young person, girl or boy, in Grade 4 or higher, may be trained as a server. For more information, contact Father Dan. [Click here for more information on Altar Server Awards.]
- Bereavement Committee
- When required, this committee assists families in planning the funeral liturgy for their loved ones.
- Catholic Woman's League (CWL)
- Catholic women, 16 years of age or older, whose goal is to foster family values and social awareness. Involved in monthly meetings and charitable activities. They meet on the first Tuesday of every month (September to June), in the Parish Centre, beginning with Mass at 7:00 p.m. [Click here for more information.]
- Children's Liturgy
- [Sunday School] The Children's Liturgy is worship suitably adapted for young children. Each Sunday during the school year, at the 11:00 a.m. Mass, children may join their peers to learn about God and themselves in a way they understand. A few minutes are spent explaining and talking about the Gospel: the older children are encouraged to take part in the discussion by answering simple questions. Pictures and and relevant crafts are provided as well.
- Choirs
- Volunteers who are willing to enhance the liturgy musically. We have three different choirs, one for each Mass. [Click here for more information.]
- Church Decorating Team
- Members who participate in the decoration of the church for Sunday Mass and special occasions, such as Christmas and Easter.
- Eucharistic Ministers
- Eucharistic ministers assist with distributing the Eucharist at Mass and bringing the Eucharist to those who cannot be present at church.
- Friendship Group
- A group of "friends" (and you are welcome to become one of our friends) who meet Wednesday afternoons from 1 - 3 p.m. This is a social afternoon. The group does projects to give to various charities.
- Grounds Maintenance
- On most Saturday's throughout the calendar year a small group from the Knights of Columbus gathers to maintain the looks of the church grounds. They are most active during the summer, meeting every Saturday morning from 9:00 - 11:00.
- Knights of Columbus
- Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to Catholic men who are at least 18 years old. They meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month (September to June), after Mass, in the upper room. [Click here for more information.]
- Lectors
- Parishioners proclaiming the Word and announcements at our weekend Masses.
- Legion of Mary
- A lay Catholic organization whose members give service to the Church on a voluntary basis. Meetings are held weekly following the Thursday evening Mass in the upper room. [Click here for more information.]
- Parish Council
- An advisory body to the Pastor, selected by the Pastor and the Parishioners, to meet and support the needs of the Parish. [Click here for more information.]
- Prayer Network
- Parishioners willing to pray each day for special intentions. A network is formed to receive call-in intention which each person passes on to make a chain of prayers.
- R.C.I.A. (Rite Of Christian Initiation of Adults)
- For both those who wish to become Catholic, and for Catholics who want to learn more about their faith. These are courses in Bible study, theology, ethics, church history and everyday concerns. A formal program of Formation is for adults seeking baptism or confirmation in the Roman Catholic Church. [ Contact us for more information. ]
- Social Committee
- Members are responsible for organizing social functions throughout the year. Activities (for example) may include Nibbles and Dibs, Trivial Pursuit nights, children's Christmas party, and picnics.
- Social Justice
- Co-ordinate the education of the parishioners to unjust social issues. Also instrumental in organizing Share Lent, food drives, emergency relief, etc. [Click here for more information.]
- St. Luke’s School
- Located adjacent to the Church, St. Luke’s School is the second of two Catholic elementary schools in the parish. It serves approximately 400 children from Pre-K to Grade 8. Call 905-561-3966.
- Ushers
- Families and/or individuals 16 years of age or older who greet parishioners and visitors, hand out weekly bulletins and tidy up the church after Mass.
- Web Site
- Originally posted on the Internet in late January of 2003, this web site serves not only our Parish needs, but the worldwide audience who finds value in our content.
- Youth Group
- Currently inactive.
